Wasn’t sure what to expect on this Inaugural 1st Hike for the North/Central Hiking group. Things are alot different trying to schedule Hikes & Activities in places that are not always so easily accessible for alot of people.
Apparently this does not matter. A wonderful turn out of people from all over the state, came to participate in the 1st Hike for Hiking Michigan’s North/Central hiking group, in the Manistee National Forest, along the Pere Marquette river.
The area we hiked was beautiful! Very natural trails, a blue-ribbon Trout fishing river and many diverse habitats made the Hike very intriguing. The FERN LOOP Trail stood up to it’s name, and we spotted more then 15 different species of Ferns along the route. Wild Flowers and mushrooms where plentiful as well. The weather was near perfect with some sun and clouds mixing.
Our Trail Leader and the director of Hiking North/Central Michigan, Mark Wilson, was quite the guide. His relaxing nature and knowledge of the outdoors, made for one of the nicest Hikes I have been on.
I must say……if this is how it is going to work for this new Group, and people from around our state will be gathering together and both enjoying our Parks and the Camaraderie out on the Trails, we have ourselves quite the new Hiking group, and something that will eventually exist through out the entire state.
Can’t wait for the next Hike!!!!!
